- What is the story behind the names of your collections?
I have three collections that I love weaving together, which cumulatively create Alexis Pavlantos’ visual language: Flora, Fauna, and Metamorphic. Flora represents botanical creations — the forms that breathe life into the world. Fauna is centered around creatures, anything that crawls, walks, or moves. Metamorphic reflects the ground and foundation of our natural world. Together, these collections tell my story through my deep connection to nature.

- What is your favorite technique or process in jewelry making?
Sculpting and creating kinetic elements. Coming from a sculpture background, I truly feel that if I was destined for one purpose, it would be to sculpt. Fabricating multiple components and making legs that move or lockets that open genuinely excites me. I love creating pieces that feel alive and interactive.
- What is inspiring you right now?
The sea. I’ve been feeling a little landlocked living in New Mexico lately. My husband and I spend much of our adventure time immersed in the water, and the creatures of the sea have really been speaking to me recently.
- What’s the best piece of advice you were given as an artist?
Listen to your intuition and find your own voice. I think many artists begin by learning technical applications and skills from others, but never fully deconstruct those teachings and transform them into their own language. This world needs more perspectives and less repetition.
- What are your favorite pieces from your personal collection?
Every object I own carries immense sentimental value because it comes from someone I love and holds a story. My mom’s very first piece of jewelry was a butterfly pendant she made and gifted to me many moons later. It makes me so happy every time I wear it. She calls me her butterfly angel.

As far as heirlooms go, I treasure my great-grandmother’s antique ring with its old rose-cut diamond. There’s something incredibly magical about it.

- What’s currently on your studio playlist?
I’ve been listening to a lot of Greek music lately in anticipation of my upcoming vacation to the motherland. I’m getting ready to fully embrace my Greek dancing era.
- What’s something you do for self-care?
Spending time in nature and hiking. I also love being with friends and finding people who enjoy slowing down and looking at things more closely.
- Who’s another artist (jeweler or otherwise) that you admire, and why?
Eva Hesse has always held a special place in my heart. I deeply admire her sense of materiality and the emotional quality of her sculptures. I’m inspired by artists who are brave enough to step beyond the boundaries of capitalism and create work that isn’t solely driven by commodification.
- Do you ever consider other career paths? In a parallel universe, what would you be doing if not making jewelry?
When I was a child, I wanted to be a marine biologist, and later, an art therapist. I’ve always known that my true passions were creating and observing nature, and I’m grateful that I accidentally collided those two worlds together through jewelry.
- Do you have any pets?
Yes — Martello (which means “hammer” in Italian) is our shop dog. We lovingly call him Poopy-cello. He’s a Shih Tzu–Chihuahua mix and such a spunky little guy who makes my heart incredibly happy. Animal kin are truly the best.
